From now until the end of May that almost every band under the sun is either releasing new music and/or hitting the road to spread the love around the country. There are a couple things that define summer for me. Melting on the pavement every time I walk outside. Burning my hands on the metal clip on seatbelts. Cutting my lips on Zooper Doopers. Coming together in early high school bands and as mates, The New Yorks were once known to the Adelaide scene as the Kindergarten Kings. Shaking off their early name, now slightly more professional and slightly less awkward, the band is embarking on a multiple date, multiple state tour to support their recently polished single, New Age.

When the soundwaves of Mike Tilbrook’s debut EP ‘Blue Solace’ reached the deep chasms of my ear canals for the very first time, a strong level of excitement stirred with in me like an energetic sloth that sights an oversized pomegranate. It was because I realised there is a new movement in the midst of Adelaide, one that Tilbrook is leading, that is: the revival of Acid Jazz.

Five years as a band and still jamming strong- Devils Crossroad welcomed new and devoted fans alike to embrace the release of their latest EP Gypsy Kings, supported with Adelaide favourites Attonbitus. With 70 thousand people parading through the city for The Fringe Festival, the hustle and bustle of neighbouring streets merely heightened the comfortable appeal of familiar venues, like The Crown and Anchor.
