There's something truly amazing about seeing your friends up on stage doing what they love and completely nailing their performances as well, particularly so when they are performing songs that have a deep connection between themselves, the audience members, and in your own personal formation. Many Australians who grew up through the end of the 20th century recognise Crowded House as one of our finest musical talents, and we caught up with sister act Sitara, comprised of artists Erin & Tess Fowler, about their Crowded House tribute show and its significance to them.

Meet Phill Fletcher, the freshest voice in hip hop. Taking to the stage for the first time on Friday at Biggies @ Bertram, Fletcher showcased the brand spankin’ new release ‘Horizons,’ the polished twelve track album of spits and word tricks. We sat down before the show to talk all things inspo, shedding light on the creation of ‘Horizons’ and catching on to some gigging vitality in its purest form.

Two singles down. An EP on the way in the new year. National airplay on Triple J's Short.fast.loud program a couple of weeks ago. A full house at a number of venues across the city, all within the first six months. If TOWNS were a movie, it'd be 1993's Rookie Of The Year (minus the broken arm and baseball thing), with the two piece rapidly rising to the top of Adelaide's live scene. We caught up with Aston and Dan post-single launch in a shonky looking back room at Fat Controller for a chat about their EP Sonder, the outrageous reception so far and free food at events.

Amongst the mayhem of the mosh pits and the dark, sweat dankness that is the dive bars that litter Adelaide's CBD, a new brand of musician is emerging out of our town. Young, brutally honest and eager for success, The Unknown Locals epitomize the next generation of musician and we were lucky enough to sit down for a yarn with them after their set at Ratfest over the weekend.

Having spent ten wonderful years writing, recording and touring as a part of Lowrider, Joe Braithwaite now known to all as the artist Ripley has begun his solo adventure into music. His debut EP Bigger Than Me was released last September to a near packed house at the Pirie St Social Club, and in the coming week he will continue his venture with a performance at this year's WOMAD Festival. A comfortable warmth has bestowed upon our calm little city this week. Don’t be fooled though, something big is brewing. Our favourite little cafés are dotted with a myriad of colourful posters, shops for lease have been transformed into pop up We Don’t Even Know Yets and customer small talk is all of a sudden completely music, art and theatre oriented. Too bad if your body is still recovering from Laneway last week because The Fringe is here! This next month is going to be wild, especially for the boys in Devils Crossroad who are about to debut their newest EP Gypsy Kings.

It's the end of an era, the end of an age. Over 10 years of globetrotting, spreading the message far and wide and increasing beard awareness and facial warmth as they go. Currently on their final ever tour of Australia, we caught up with bassist Nathaniel Beard to have a chat about, well, BEARDS.

Filling up all the corners of Adelaide, bands are coming out left right and centre just killing it in the local scene. I caught just a glimpse of a set by The New Yorks a couple of months ago including a Strokes cover and was blown away by what they were doing. Moving into the new year, the band is preparing for their first EP release under the new name and will be embarking on a tour to follow. I caught up with the lads post-Boxing Day to see what's coming next.

There's so many incredible people doing all of the incredible things in Adelaide. One of the most significant of those people, particularly over the past year with the launch of One & Three music blog, has been Courtney Duka. Interests include sprinkle donuts, cheap wine and live music and we sat down with her last week to chat all things Adelaide music, her love of Joy & Sparkes and her whirlwind year in music.

Last weekend we sat down with the new kids on the block, North East Avenue, to have a get to know you session ahead of their show with us at the Bakehouse 2nd Birthday gig. We talk about style, influence, getting the band together and the glowing praise of bass guitarist Alastair Farr and his classical roots. |
